Job Description
Motive is hiring a Manager for Hardware Reliability Engineering to lead its Taipei-based reliability group. The manager sets reliability direction across the whole product life cycle and works with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supplier, and product colleagues to turn field evidence into sturdier connected devices. The posting does not provide a location field, but it describes the team as based in Taipei.
The manager defines a multi-quarter reliability plan, team objectives, success measures, and ownership model, and speaks for hardware reliability at design reviews, product launches, and leadership meetings. Work spans requirements, test plans, qualification scope, and exit criteria, as well as failure-mode analysis and sustaining activity. The manager ties validation data, factory records, returns, and field failures to root-cause work and corrective measures.
People leadership is central: hiring, coaching, and retaining the team, creating repeatable standards and review routines, and clearing obstacles. The manager works with colleagues in Taipei, San Francisco, India, and elsewhere, weighs cost, schedule, quality, and reliability against one another, and promotes customer-driven thinking.
The posting asks for an undergraduate or graduate degree in a mechanical, electrical, or materials discipline, or in reliability or a closely connected field, plus hardware reliability, quality, validation, or systems background and experience managing engineering teams. Experience with networked hardware such as vehicle electronics, telematics units, or equipment built for harsh conditions is a plus. No salary or benefits are described.
Responsibilities
- Define the multi-quarter reliability strategy, team goals, success measures, and ownership model
- Coordinate with the TPM, product, firmware, systems, electrical, and mechanical functions on requirements and test plans
- Direct failure analysis, design-for-reliability checkpoints, and reliability improvement programs
- Lead root-cause work and corrective action using field, factory, and support data
- Improve manufacturing capability, supplier performance, test breadth, and how robust products are
- Hire, coach, and grow the Taipei team, and set scalable standards and review routines
- Bring stakeholders in Taipei, San Francisco, India, and beyond into agreement on trade-offs and priorities
Requirements
- Undergraduate or graduate training in mechanical, electrical, or materials engineering, reliability, or a closely connected field
- Grounding in reliability work on hardware, quality, validation, or systems design
- Experience hiring, developing, and leading engineering reliability teams
- Hands-on grasp of how parts fail, reliability trials, accelerated life tests, and root-cause techniques
- Experience writing NPI and ORT reliability plans and running DFMEA reviews
- Ability to oversee lab calibration and clear audit findings and corrective actions
Qualifications
- Exposure to connected hardware, such as vehicle electronics, telematics, cameras, or industrial kit built for harsh conditions
- Experience spanning concept work, NPI, production ramp, and sustaining, starting from design verification
- Knowledge of tools like NUDD, FRACAS, FMEA, fault trees, Weibull analysis, DOE, and reliability growth planning
- Experience with contract manufacturers and component vendors on qualification and corrective work
- Awareness of environmental test standards like IEC 60068, MIL-STD-810, and ISO 16750
