The organization is seeking a Principal Software Engineer, AI to operate as the most senior individual contributor on the AI engineering team. In this position, the engineer establishes the technical architecture and strategic direction for machine intelligence across the entire platform, creating scalable production capabilities that thousands of corporate revenue teams rely on daily.
This individual shapes foundational technical decisions by developing reliable systems powered by probabilistic components like large language models, machine learning, and agentic workflows. Responsibilities
- Define the technical architecture and strategy for AI systems, covering model serving, LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, and underlying infrastructure
- Design production-grade systems that maintain reliability and observability while utilizing probabilistic AI components
- Establish evaluation frameworks, safety guardrails, and quality measurement systems for enterprise-scale artificial intelligence
- Drive complex AI engineering initiatives end-to-end from prototyping to hardened production deployment
- Formulate engineering standards and best practices for building AI-native systems while mentoring senior team members
- Evaluate and integrate advancements in foundation models, agent frameworks, and modern artificial intelligence stacks
Requirements
- Extensive background in architecting and building production software systems at scale with significant depth in AI and machine learning
- Hands-on experience deploying production systems utilizing large language models or machine learning models while managing non-deterministic behavior
- Expertise in distributed systems, model serving, and the infrastructure needed to run artificial intelligence at scale
- Proven track record of designing evaluation frameworks, guardrails, or quality systems for AI-driven features
- Demonstrated ability to establish technical architecture and standards across teams and mentor senior engineers
- Strong command of a major programming language such as Python, Java, or Go
- Proficiency with modern cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP
- Practical experience designing and hardening autonomous agentic systems in production
- Deep familiarity with the modern AI stack including retrieval-augmented generation, vector stores, agent frameworks, model orchestration, and evaluation tooling
