ServiceNow is seeking a Principal Software Engineer specializing in Go and Kubernetes Platform Engineering to join its team in Hyderabad. This full-time, on-site role involves leading the design, delivery, and end-to-end operation of complex cloud-native platform components and services. The chosen engineer will act as the technical lead for major team initiatives, translating ambiguous challenges into scalable architectures while maintaining a hands-on presence across the development lifecycle. This position suits an experienced technologist who can collaborate closely with Principal and Distinguished Engineers, tackle technical risks, and mentor junior and mid-level colleagues.
The role requires deep technical involvement in building and operating large-scale distributed systems, Kubernetes platform infrastructure, admission controllers, and platform extensions. The successful candidate will drive technical strategy, uphold engineering standards, and help integrate AI into operational and platform workflows.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and delivery of cloud-native platform components from initial concept through production operation
- Serve as technical lead for major team initiatives, turning ambiguous problems into scalable solutions
- Partner with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to align with platform architecture and long-term technical strategy
- Identify and resolve technical risks with a focus on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence
- Maintain hands-on involvement in designing, coding, and reviewing core systems such as Kubernetes operators and controllers
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design critiques, and technical guidance
Requirements
- 14 plus years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native platforms
- Demonstrated experience building and managing Kubernetes platform infrastructure at scale
- Hands-on development expertise in Go for Kubernetes operators, controllers, custom resource definitions, and platform automation
- Experience operating both managed Kubernetes services and self-managed environments
- Extensive experience with major public cloud platforms including compute, networking, security, and identity management
- Strong background in microservices, event-driven systems, and distributed application architectures
Qualifications
- Experience with container networking and service mesh
- Familiarity with mTLS, workload identity, and secrets management at fleet scale
- Experience implementing metrics, tracing, and service-level objectives
- Experience with declarative infrastructure tooling such as Terraform or Crossplane
- Experience tuning or designing distributed data and compute workloads on Kubernetes
