ServiceNow is hiring a Principal Software Engineer for a full-time position located in Hyderabad. This on-site role involves directing the design, creation, and deployment of sophisticated services and components within a cloud-native platform, managing them through every stage from initial planning to live production environments. The selected professional will act as technical lead for major initiatives, collaborating with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to ensure adherence to company architecture and long-term strategy.
The position requires active participation across the entire software development life cycle, encompassing coding, architecture design, and code reviews for Kubernetes operators, infrastructure automation, controllers, and platform components. Candidates will also mentor junior and mid-level personnel while proactively identifying and resolving technical risks related to scalability, reliability, and engineering standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of complex components and services within the cloud-native platform from design through production
- Act as the technical lead for major features and initiatives, translating ambiguous problems into executable and scalable designs
- Partner with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to align with platform architecture and long-term technical strategy
- Identify and resolve technical risks early with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, and operability
- Maintain a hands-on presence across the development lifecycle by designing, coding, and reviewing core systems
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and collaborative problem-solving
Requirements
- 14 or more years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native platforms in production
- Demonstrated experience building and operating Kubernetes platform infrastructure at scale
- Hands-on development experience with Kubernetes Operators, Admission Controllers, or platform extensions using tools like Kubebuilder or Operator Framework
- Experience operating both managed Kubernetes services including EKS, AKS, and GKE as well as self-managed environments
- Experience supporting cloud-native database platforms, stateful services, or large-scale data infrastructure on Kubernetes
- Strong software engineering expertise in Go for developing operators, controllers, and CRDs
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture covering orchestration, scheduling, security, storage, networking, and workload management
- Extensive experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Background in building microservices, event-driven systems, and distributed application architectures
- Experience managing complex technical initiatives end-to-end from architecture to operational support
- Hands-on experience with containers, CI/CD, GitOps, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform or Crossplane
- Experience implementing observability, metrics, logging, tracing, monitoring, alerting, and service-level objectives
Qualifications
- Experience leveraging or integrating AI into engineering and platform work
- Experience with container networking or service mesh
- Experience with mTLS, workload identity, and secrets management at fleet scale
- Experience designing or tuning distributed data or compute workloads on Kubernetes
