Job Description
This is an on-site, full-time legal and compliance position covering privacy counsel for SEEK's APAC operations across the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. The counsel detects and manages privacy exposure, keeps the group informed and compliant, and contributes to a shared privacy document library, tools and resources aligned with a privacy roadmap.
Much of the work is serving as Data Protection Officer for SEEK in the Philippines, under the 2012 Data Privacy Act and its implementing rules and NPC issuances. Duties include monitoring compliance, keeping registrations and renewals current, writing and reviewing internal policies and forms, handling data subject requests and complaints, managing breaches and security incidents, and preparing filings and audit material for the National Privacy Commission and other authorities. The role is the main link between the company, the individuals whose data is held and regulators. It also runs awareness sessions for staff and follows Philippine legal developments. The post-holder may be asked to act as DPO in other local markets.
A law degree from a respected university is needed, along with thorough knowledge of data protection principles and practice and at least three years' post-graduate experience in privacy, cybersecurity, legal or compliance roles in the Philippines or wider Asia. The ideal candidate works independently and within a varied team, weighs legal duties against commercial realities, and writes and speaks clearly.
Responsibilities
- Give privacy guidance across SEEK's APAC businesses
- Serve as the Philippines Data Protection Officer
- Check compliance with local data protection rules and maintain registrations
- Write and revise internal privacy policies, procedures and templates
- Handle requests and complaints from data subjects
- Lead breach and incident response, with timely reporting
- Put together regulatory assessments, audits and filings for the NPC and other authorities
- Deliver privacy training and awareness sessions
- Track Philippine legal changes and brief stakeholders
Requirements
- A legal degree from a well-regarded institution
- Sound understanding of data protection theory, policy and day-to-day practice
- Experience turning privacy rules into working compliance programs
- Three-plus years after graduation in privacy, cyber, legal or compliance work in the Philippines or Asia
- Capacity to work alone and within cross-functional teams
