Job Description
Supabase operates as a Postgres development platform designed by developers for developers, offering a complete backend solution encompassing databases, authentication, storage, edge functions, realtime capabilities, and vector search. The company is currently hiring a remote Release Engineer to join the Release Engineering team within EngOps. This position centers on bringing a Site Reliability Engineering mindset to how the platform ships and runs, ensuring deployments remain safe, observable, and recoverable at scale.
In this capacity, the Release Engineer treats deployment pipelines, pre-production signals, and the control plane as production systems governed by service level objectives, error budgets, and on-call ownership. Rather than acting as a gatekeeper, this team member builds reliable paths by standardizing deployment procedures, instrumenting shipped code, and accelerating incident detection and recovery. Key duties involve driving disaster recovery readiness, operating health and SLO monitoring using synthetic testing, minimizing mean time to detect and recover from deploy-related incidents, and leading blameless postmortems.
Ideal candidates possess extensive experience in site reliability engineering, production operations, platform engineering, or release engineering. The company functions as a globally distributed, remote-first organization with approximately 400 team members spanning over 60 countries. Supabase provides competitive benefits including equity ownership, comprehensive health insurance coverage, a technology setup allowance, a co-working or WeWork membership, an annual education budget, and yearly company-wide off-sites.
Responsibilities
- Manage the reliability of deployment and release systems as well as the underlying control plane against established SLOs and error budgets
- Transform pre-production environments into trustworthy signals by standardizing and instrumenting fragmented deployment workflows
- Drive disaster recovery readiness to make environments reproducibly deployable from scratch
- Build and operate health and SLO monitoring for critical user flows utilizing synthetic testing
- Reduce mean-time-to-detect and mean-time-to-recover for deployment-related incidents
- Take part in on-call rotations, direct blameless postmortems, and translate findings into runbooks, alerts, and automation
- Enhance deployment observability and auditability by maintaining clear records of software releases
- Document operational procedures, break-glass pathways, access models, and runbooks
- Define and track SLAs, error budgets, and DORA delivery metrics accompanied by relevant alerts
- Harden access and break-glass workflows to allow secure and swift intervention during incidents
- Collaborate alongside product engineering and platform teams to align release processes with availability targets
Requirements
- Bring over five years of professional experience in SRE, production operations, platform engineering, or release engineering
- Demonstrate hands-on background operating production systems at scale and managing on-call duties for them
- Show fluency in SLAs, SLOs, error budgets, DORA metrics, operational KPIs, and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Alertmanager
- Have led incident response using platforms like incident.io, PagerDuty, or Opsgenie, conducted blameless postmortems, and improved MTTD and MTTR metrics
- Work confidently with production AWS environments spanning multiple accounts, IAM, and VPC configurations
- Utilize infrastructure-as-code frameworks including Pulumi or Terraform
- Possess proficiency in Kubernetes
- Write scripts and automation to eliminate operational toil
