Job Description
Supabase is seeking a Supalite Engineer to join its remote team. The company acts as a Postgres development platform designed for developers, supplying a full backend solution that includes Vector Search, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Database. In this position, engineers work on Spark, a lightweight Supabase implementation written in Rust that operates on an embedded SQLite-based engine with a Postgres-compatible SQL layer.
This role offers high agency within a small team, allowing the holder to take charge of broad areas end to end. Responsibilities include enhancing API compatibility with the Supabase client, expanding the Supabase stack on Turso or SQLite, building upgrade paths to full Supabase, and managing developer experience tools such as the CLI and local tooling. The job involves collaborating with design partners, handling integration hurdles, and contributing back to the open-source community.
Ideal candidates possess substantial backend or full-stack background with proficiency in Rust, a strong generalist mindset, and familiarity with relational databases and SQL. Applicants should be comfortable navigating ambiguous early-stage projects and operating asynchronously.

- Bring more of the Supabase stack to Turso or SQLite
- Identify and resolve gaps in the underlying database engine using minimal repros and tests

- Manage the end-to-end developer experience including the CLI, local tooling, and documentation
- Build and harden the hosted offering while preserving a low cost structure
- Collaborate directly with design partners to resolve migration and integration friction
- Engage with the open-source community and contribute to the broader Supabase stack
Requirements
- Substantial backend or full-stack experience with strong fluency in Rust
- History of shipping production Rust and building or contributing to backend systems, frameworks, or developer platforms

- Solid foundation in SQL and relational databases with experience working close to a database engine
- Knowledge of Postgres sufficient to use it as a reference for correct behavior
- Experience running services under tight resource limits
- Comfort owning ambiguous, early-stage work and making sound decisions
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and work in public repositories on an async team
Qualifications
- Experience with the Supabase stack
- Experience building developer CLIs
- Track record of open-source maintenance
- Contributions to Rust database or web projects
