Job Description
Gympass, also known as Wellhub, is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for its Marketing Engineering & Platform team. This position is open to candidates based in Brazil who can work remotely from anywhere within the country. The company operates a workplace wellness platform connecting global employees to fitness, therapy, mindfulness, nutrition, and sleep partners.
In this role, you will be part of the B2B Acquisition squad, which manages the complete SMB customer acquisition funnel—ranging from lead capture and self-service purchasing flows to pricing rules and final onboarding. You will partner alongside Product, Marketing, and Sales departments to construct scalable architectures, enhance conversion funnels, and address core technical obstacles.
The engineering environment utilizes a polyglot, event-driven backend powered by Kotlin, Spring Boot, and Go. Services communicate via Kafka, integrate with a GraphQL BFF, and connect directly to enterprise tools such as HubSpot, Salesforce, and Segment. The team runs containerized microservices deployed on AWS and Kubernetes, utilizing Datadog and OpenTelemetry for monitoring, while incorporating AI-assisted development tools to streamline delivery.
Responsibilities
- Manage critical SMB acquisition funnel services end to end by designing, deploying, and maintaining high-throughput backend applications.
- Drive event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging patterns using Kafka to ensure data resilience and consistency.
- Harden and scale direct integrations with business platforms including Salesforce, HubSpot, and Segment.
- Establish observability and reliability practices by defining service level objectives and alerts with Datadog and OpenTelemetry.
- Partner with Product, Marketing, and Sales stakeholders to convert business objectives into technical solutions.
- Collaborate across engineering squads to evolve architecture, execute code reviews, and mentor team members.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools and engineering workflows to accelerate feature delivery, testing, and documentation.
Requirements
- Hands-on professional background in designing, building, and operating distributed systems in production.
- Production expertise in Kotlin and Go, or a strong modern Java background with enthusiasm to work primarily in Kotlin and Go.
- Practical experience with event-driven systems, asynchronous processing, and Kafka or equivalent message brokers.
- Cloud-oriented software engineering background involving containerized microservices on AWS and Kubernetes.
- Experience in data modeling and database management across relational datastores like PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases like Redis and DynamoDB.
- Fluent in Portuguese for squad interactions and possessing working proficiency in English for cross-team documentation.
- Mandatory professional background in backend software engineering with Kotlin, Go, or Java, alongside Kafka experience.
