Job Description

Airalo is recruiting a Senior Core Network Engineer who specialises in HLR and HSS subscriber data. The engineer is the technical custodian of the subscriber templates that let the MVNO expand across countries. The work feeds into cost of goods and margin through steering of roaming, so the engineer decides which networks subscribers attach to, and the scope reaches into sponsor roaming setups.

Typical tasks include building and maintaining HLR and HSS templates covering roaming profiles, APN and PDN settings, and CAMEL and Diameter triggers. The engineer also leads the rollout of complete MVNO profiles, including quality-of-service parameters, global titles and the APNs needed to run independently. Acting as the principal technical point of contact for integrators, the engineer audits configurations, reviews change requests and monitors indicators such as location update success and Diameter throughput, all in line with the 2026 roadmap. The post is remote and full-time.

Strong candidates bring a thorough grasp of MAP (SS7) and Diameter signalling, hands-on work with HLR, HSS and UDM in multi-tenant or MVNO environments, and a systematic method for diagnosing signalling faults.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain HLR and HSS subscriber templates covering roaming profiles, APN and PDN contexts, and CAMEL and Diameter triggers.
  • Partner with roaming counterparts to build and tune steering-of-roaming logic inside the HLR and HSS.
  • Head the technical deployment of full MVNO profiles, including QoS settings and the global titles and APNs needed for independent operation.
  • Act as the main technical contact for integrators, auditing configurations and reviewing change requests.
  • Set and monitor key HLR and HSS measures such as location update success rates and Diameter throughput limits.
  • Make sure configuration choices stay consistent with the 2026 product roadmap.

Requirements

  • Advanced understanding of the MAP (SS7) protocol and Diameter, including the S6a and S13 interfaces.
  • Substantial hands-on work with HLR, HSS and UDM in multi-tenant or MVNO environments.
  • Practical know-how with multi-IMSI applets and running roaming through sponsor IMSIs.
  • Good grasp of GSMA IREG (IR series) guidance.
  • Skilled at diagnosing complex signalling failures with tools such as Wireshark or roaming analysis platforms.
  • Experience managing technical projects with outside integrators and roaming partners under firm deadlines.

Qualifications

  • VoLTE roaming (S8HR) or SMS-over-IP rollout experience, which the posting calls a significant advantage.
  • Working knowledge of TADIG (the TD series) and of how templates affect billing and settlement.
  • Exposure to 5G UDM and AUSF components.
  • Experience with cloud-native network functions and containerised cores.
  • Python or Bash scripting for provisioning audits and log analysis.
