Coinbase is hiring a remote Senior Engineering Manager for its Data Platform team. The team provides the base layer for keeping, transporting, governing and querying data at scale, spanning storage, streams, data lakes, analytics and experiment tooling. It also builds privacy and governance tools that help other groups use data responsibly.
The manager would lead, coach and develop engineers and support their career growth. Working with product, design and senior leaders, the manager would set a quarterly plan and deliver it in stages. The role also involves guiding technical choices, encouraging high-quality code and sound practices, and building dependable distributed systems.
The manager would stay involved in hands-on work, including reviews of designs and code, leading incident response, joining on-call rotations and troubleshooting when needed. Other duties include owning processes that lift engineering quality and service-level results, and working with recruiters to bring in strong engineers.
Candidates need seven or more years of software engineering, ideally in data platforms or infrastructure, including at least two years of managing engineers. Experience running distributed systems at scale, sound engineering judgment, an execution-first approach and some grounding in Bitcoin- or Ethereum-style chain systems is also sought.
