Job Description
Coinbase is remote-first, though not remote-only, and gathers teams in person each quarter for intensive working sessions it calls surges. This senior role is part of the Coinbase Advisor team in the Consumer and Business group. The posting describes it as mainly a backend job on a full-stack team. Coinbase Advisor is presented as the first RIA-licensed agentic trading product: an AI adviser inside the Coinbase app that talks through a customer's portfolio, offers tailored financial guidance, and places trades for the customer. The engineer will own the services that keep that experience quick, transparent, and dependable.
Work includes owning backend services for Advisor and Strategies from design through launch and long-term operation. The engineer builds connections to Coinbase's trading interfaces so that agent suggestions and customer-defined strategies become accurate, traceable orders. The role also covers the agent harness: tool invocation, orchestration, durable state, and recovery when actions fail or finish only partway. Behavior tuning is part of the job too, through prompt design, evaluations, and conversation review, coordinated with the company's registered investment adviser for any changes to financial advice.
The engineer also improves uptime, response times, monitoring quality, and the safety of trade execution, including retry logic and protections against duplicate trades. They coordinate with the frontend group, product and design staff, trading infrastructure teams, and legal and compliance colleagues to ship customer features within regulatory bounds.
