Job Description

Monzo is recruiting a Senior Financial Crime Investigator to work remotely in the UK for its EU-facing financial crime operation. Applicants must speak English and Spanish at a fully fluent level, and applications that do not meet this requirement will not be progressed. The start date is 4 January 2027. The base salary is £31,100 to £39,350, plus a £2,500 multilingual premium and incentive awards tied to performance.

The investigator would examine difficult or high-risk money laundering alerts raised on business and retail accounts, and recommend whether a Suspicious Transaction Report should be filed by Monzo Bank EU. Other duties include making onboarding decisions for high-risk or complex business customers, carrying out ongoing checks on high-risk business accounts, and giving financial crime expertise to other operational teams. The role sits within the Retail and Business Banking team.

Two shift patterns are offered. The core day shift runs 8.5-hour shifts from 07:00 until 18:30, with one weekend in every four, compensated by time off in lieu on weekdays. The late shift runs from 12:00 to 20:30 on weekdays, with no weekend work.

Applicants should be strong written and spoken communicators in English and Spanish, and have experience screening high-risk business banking relationships or carrying out complex business financial crime investigations. The posting also asks for experience reaching independent, risk-led judgements inside a regulated firm, plus knowledge of financial crime risks in the UK and EU. Successful candidates must be available for eight training weeks on weekdays, 9am to 5:30pm, and no leave is approved for that stretch.

The application has four steps: application questions, a recruiter call, a take-home task to test financial crime knowledge, and an interview covering past experience, technical knowledge, values and a language assessment. The posting says the process usually takes two to three weeks. Benefits include a £1,000 learning allowance, a MacBook and home-working support for fully remote staff.
