Fleetio is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join its remote team in the United States. As part of the Platform Engineering group, this role focuses on running, maintaining, and scaling a Ruby on Rails stack and underlying infrastructure. Fleetio develops a modern software platform used globally for fleet operations and operates as a founding member of the Rails Foundation. This position suits an infrastructure engineer who wants to optimize application performance, database capacity, and site reliability. The role involves utilizing artificial intelligence tooling, including AI agents and automated workflows, to handle operational tasks, speed up remediation, and assist with root-cause investigations. Responsibilities span system observability, database upgrades, disaster recovery execution, documentation maintenance, and participating in an on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Identify, triage, and resolve performance issues
- Monitor performance metrics across Ruby, Rails, and database systems using SLOs and SLIs
- Build and maintain AI agents, skills, and automations to reduce operational toil
- Use AI-assisted tooling for performance analysis, root-cause investigation, and code reviews
- Collaborate with site reliability engineers to address performance bottlenecks
- Lead database capacity planning and upgrade initiatives
- Manage database disaster recovery planning and execution
- Oversee backup systems and pre-production databases
- Create and maintain infrastructure runbooks and documentation
- Participate in the on-call rotation
Requirements
- At least five years of Ruby and Rails experience
- At least three years of AWS experience
- Kubernetes experience
- Experience with profiling and benchmarking source code
- Ability to perform code reviews and identify performance problems
- Experience with Datadog or other APM tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications
- Experience building AI agents, LLM-powered automations, or integrations for engineering workflows
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
- Understanding of cloud network fundamentals including routing, firewalls, load balancers, CDNs, and VPCs
- Experience with distributed event and data stores like Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, Memcached, and TimescaleDB
