Job Description
The Senior Software Engineer on the Platform Engineering team builds software that other developers use. The group is made of senior engineers who create internal APIs and services, developer tools, continuous integration and delivery frameworks, and abstractions built on Kubernetes. The team approaches its platform as a product, placing ease of use, uptake and the developer's experience at the top of its priorities.
The purpose of the group is to help product engineering teams ship healthcare software quickly, dependably and safely. A large part of the engineer's time goes to writing code: platform services, interfaces and tooling that many engineering groups depend on. The engineer also owns each service after launch, which covers monitoring, troubleshooting and responding to incidents. The work blends software design with site reliability practice.
The position is full time and hybrid, and the team uses in-office days mainly for collaboration. The role gives a chance to learn from very experienced engineers while tackling demanding software problems in which the engineer's opinion carries weight.
The posting sets expert-level TypeScript and Node.js skill as the minimum for production APIs and developer tools, paired with disciplined automated testing. Working knowledge of Kubernetes, infrastructure as code and cloud-native environments is also expected. Candidates should write clear documentation, including architecture decision records and runbooks, and should be able to bring others around to shared patterns.
Responsibilities
- Create, upkeep and extend services, APIs, SDKs and internal tooling that other engineering groups rely on
- Take each platform service from design through production and keep improving it
- Improve pipelines and developer automation with an eye on ease of use and speed
- Use distributed systems and backend principles to build services that scale and recover well
- Run the things you ship: monitoring, troubleshooting and handling incidents
Requirements
- Expert-level TypeScript and Node.js skill for production-grade APIs, services and developer tooling
- Experience with developer-facing interfaces in React or a comparable framework
- Strong practice in automated testing at the unit, integration and end-to-end levels
- Sound footing in distributed architectures, interface design and production back-end engineering
- Working command of observability, covering metrics, logs, tracing and SLI or SLO frameworks
- Strong Kubernetes skills, including building abstractions and extending the platform with custom controllers
- Ability to design CI/CD pipelines that meet security, compliance and developer-experience goals
- Working proficiency with Terraform or Pulumi, GitOps and cloud-native setups
- Clear communication and documentation skills, including architecture records and runbooks
Qualifications
- Past work on internal developer portals or tools that let teams self-serve
- Experience with AI and ML integration, including LLM APIs, automated decision steps and agent-style designs
- Working knowledge of cloud security, compliance tooling such as HIPAA, SOC 2 or HITRUST, or cloud cost optimization
