Job Description
This is a full-time, hybrid Senior Software Engineer role in London on the Proactive Security Engineering team. The team aims to keep the delivery network safe, dependable and robust by building 'security paved paths', meaning pre-approved secure routes that let product and infrastructure teams get security right from the outset. The team forms part of a broader Security Engineering function covering North America and Europe.
The engineer leads the design, build and running of security services in Deliveroo's product and cloud security areas. Items in scope include remote access management, secrets handling, tokenisation, encryption, knowledge graphs and access control on a global scale. The job means partnering with security, legal, external vendors, product engineering and core infrastructure colleagues to give teams practical guidance on secure design, and leading the technical roadmap for an assigned area.
Operational excellence is central, including taking a turn on call for tier-zero services. The engineer manages security feature requests from first triage through to delivery, raises engineering standards, uses large language models where they lift productivity, and mentors engineers early in their careers. The position is London-based, and its reporting line runs to the senior manager for Security Engineering in Europe.

Responsibilities

Requirements
- Track record of strengthening an organisation's infrastructure security.
- Breadth of experience across infrastructure and security in large production environments.
- Skilled in building distributed systems and platforms with Java, Scala, Kotlin, Go or Python.
- Practical use of Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling.
- Expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure and its management.
- Hands-on experience running root cause analysis and tackling systemic issues.
- Clear verbal and written communication for reviewing design documents with cloud, security and engineering colleagues.
- Comfort making independent decisions with minimal supervision.
