Job Description
Role overview. Grafana Labs is recruiting a Senior Software Engineer for the Session Replay squad. The job is remote, with candidates limited to USA Eastern time zones. Session Replay is a newer Grafana Cloud offering that ties frontend signals such as errors, performance and synthetic checks to evidence from individual sessions, so teams can investigate production issues faster.
Technical direction. The product is still early, so the engineer helps shape both what gets built and where it sits inside Grafana Cloud. The next phase centers on moving session capture onto a columnar, analytical engine for storage and queries over high-volume session data. The role covers schema design, data intake and how queries are shaped. The stack is Go for backend services, TypeScript and React for user-facing workflows, columnar storage, object storage and MySQL.
Scope. The engineer acts as a technical leader with end-to-end responsibility across frontend, backend and data systems. Duties include leading the design of investigation workflows that link replays to logs, metrics, traces and other signals, making architecture decisions that affect several teams, and working with Frontend Observability, Synthetic Monitoring and Core Grafana. Engineers also join customer calls, gather structured feedback, and raise team standards and mentoring.
Who it suits. The posting looks for an engineer who can reason about data-intensive systems in terms of ingestion, storage, querying and cost, and who can own features in unclear problem spaces. Strong written and spoken English for design discussions is required. The team works by consensus and values maintainable, well-automated code. AI tools are welcome where they genuinely help.

- Define schemas, data intake paths and query shapes
- Lead the work on investigation flows that tie replays to logs, metrics and traces
- Make architecture decisions that affect multiple teams and products
- Coordinate with other Grafana groups to craft joined-up experiences across products
- Sit in on customer calls and help users set up and adopt Session Replay
- Improve engineering standards and mentor engineers
Requirements
- Comfort in a remote-first company, where communication is a core skill
- Able to contribute to consensus decisions, disagree constructively and then commit to the team's choice
- Clear written and spoken English for communicating design decisions
- Capacity to think through heavy-data systems, weighing intake, storage, query and spend tradeoffs
- Comfort taking ownership of features where requirements are unclear, with little supervision
- User-centered approach to software development
Qualifications
- Experience with columnar or analytical databases
- Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Datadog, New Relic or Sentry
- Experience creating troubleshooting or developer-oriented tooling
