Kong Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead the Managed Gateways Site Reliability Engineering team. Kong operates as an AI Connectivity Company, building unified API and AI platforms utilized by Fortune 500 enterprises and startups. In this position, the manager will establish and expand a new team in Washington state, initially remaining hands-on with enterprise implementations while scaling operations. The role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, and fault tolerance for critical managed services across international customer bases.

Responsibilities
- Build and mentor a team of Site Reliability Engineers in Washington
- Engage as a direct contributor to critical implementations and reliability tasks during the early stages
- Design and maintain fault-tolerant, cloud-native systems utilizing container orchestration and modern programming languages
- Manage the complete operational lifecycle from proactive monitoring to blameless post-mortems
- Automate workflows and develop self-service tooling to minimize technical debt
- Establish and monitor key service level objectives and indicators
- Partner with product, support, and engineering teams to guarantee operational readiness for new features
Requirements
- Demonstrated background leading Site Reliability Engineering or DevOps teams in fast-paced environments
- Deep technical expertise building highly available distributed systems on major cloud platforms
- Extensive practical production experience utilizing Kubernetes
- Proficiency in Golang or related modern programming languages for infrastructure and service creation
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
- Proven capability handling major incidents and executing root cause analysis
Qualifications
- Familiarity with API gateway technologies, network proxies, or service mesh
- Active involvement in open-source projects or cloud-native communities
- Certifications in Kubernetes or major cloud platforms like AWS
