This full-time Senior Strategy and Operations Manager role at Monzo is based in London, with distributed working also possible within the UK and occasional visits to the London office. This is an individual contributor post that helps chart where Payments heads next at Monzo. Reporting into the Payments GM and leadership team, the manager helps define, track and push the collective's strategy, weighing long-range vision against everyday execution. The manager keeps a view across the whole Payments portfolio so that goals, investments and initiatives fit together and with Monzo's wider mission. Tasks run from estimating what a new product gamble could deliver to spotting ways the collective could work better. The post keeps evidence-based dashboards of results across products, squads and projects, and draws on them to rank work and weigh trade-offs. It leads monthly business reviews and governance materials and keeps communication consistent between squads and other collectives.
New opportunities are scoped through market sizing, commercial modelling, partnership evaluation and budget and forecast analysis. The manager also helps balance maintenance, business-as-usual and growth work, supports resourcing and squad design decisions, and runs Payments all-hands meetings, goal-setting cycles and strategy forums. The job also involves growing the lending portfolio and supporting launch work as Borrowing products reach new countries.
The ideal candidate has a strategic outlook that thinks in systems and anticipates change, strong analytical rigour on large and messy datasets, and a commercial mindset that makes trade-offs based on data, impact and resource limits. Experience collaborating with deeply technical groups, for instance ML specialists and data or analytics engineers, counts for a lot, as does shaping outcomes without formal power. Responsibilities
- Back the General Manager of Payments and leaders in setting and tracking strategic direction
- Dig into large, complex datasets to diagnose operational problems and design solutions
- Keep evidence-based dashboards of results across products, squads and projects current
- Run the monthly performance review and prepare reporting and oversight packs
- Define new opportunities via market estimates, commercial models, partner assessments and forecast work
- Balance maintenance, business-as-usual and growth work, and support resourcing decisions
- Connect Payments squads and keep communication consistent with other Monzo collectives
- Support lending-book growth and launch operations as Borrowing expands into new geographies
- Lead Payments all-hands, goal-setting processes and strategic forums
