Job Description
Moniepoint Inc. is a financial platform operating across Africa that assists millions of businesses and individuals with payments, banking, credit, and management tools. As a merchant acquirer powering numerous point-of-sale transactions, the company processes billions in annual digital payment value. To support its ongoing expansion, Moniepoint is currently hiring a Site Reliability Engineer to focus on the dependability of its distributed platform.
This position requires an individual who can merge distributed systems expertise with software development capabilities. Responsibilities include shaping service level objectives, directing incident responses, and developing automation and self-healing systems. The ideal candidate will balance short-term operational stability with long-term engineering strategies so that services scale linearly alongside the business growth.
Responsibilities
- Participate in scheduled on-call rotations
- Serve as Incident Commander during major severity incidents by managing war rooms, coordinating teams, and providing updates
- Instrument code to capture high-cardinality metrics and distributed traces
- Collaborate with product owners to establish and measure Service Level Objectives and Error Budgets
- Develop production-ready code in Java, Go, or Python to create internal tools, automation, and self-healing mechanisms
- Work alongside Product Engineering during design phases to integrate reliability, scalability, and observability patterns into new services
- Evaluate performance and traffic trends to forecast capacity needs
- Perform load testing and chaos engineering experiments to test system resilience
Requirements
- Minimum of four years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering or Backend Engineering
- Ability to write clean, tested, and performant code in Java, Go, Rust, or Python
- Familiarity with distributed systems architecture, microservices fundamentals, and event-driven architectures
- Hands-on experience running production workloads on Kubernetes and troubleshooting infrastructure issues
- Experience using cloud providers such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure
- Familiarity with observability tools like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, New Relic, Datadog, or SigNoz
- Experience operating and tuning production data stores and streaming platforms in high-throughput environments
