Job Description
Vercel, the agentic infrastructure company, seeks a Software Engineer for its Agent Auth team. For over a decade, the organization has supported builders in taking concepts to production with speed, security, and developer clarity, serving platforms like OpenAI, PayPal, Ramp, and millions of global developers. In this remote, full-time position, the professional will develop systems allowing human users and autonomous agents to authenticate, delegate access, and interact securely across Vercel and connected services.
This role focuses on foundational identity and authorization infrastructure designed to address how agents operate, verify their identity, and obtain scoped, time-limited, and auditable permissions. Responsibilities involve engineering secure application programming interfaces, services, and software development kits, handling authentication standards like OAuth 2.x and OIDC, and managing systems end-to-end from design through production operations.
The position suits engineers who prioritize security alongside developer experience and enjoy tackling ambiguous problem spaces. Candidates will collaborate closely with security, product, and platform groups, participate in on-call schedules, and contribute to open-source community discussions surrounding agent trust.

- Engage with modern and emerging standards such as OAuth 2.x, OIDC, and agent protocols
- Lead projects end-to-end by setting technical direction and delivering reliability and security improvements
- Partner with product, security, and platform teams to embed identity across products
- Participate in the on-call rotation to maintain critical system reliability
- Contribute to open source and community discussions regarding agent identity and trust
- Write clean, tested, documented, and efficient code

- Security-minded engineering approach considering threat models, least privilege, and failure modes
- Track record of end-to-end ownership from design to long-term production operation
- Ability to balance long-term architectural vision with pragmatic delivery
Qualifications
- Experience building or operating identity providers, auth platforms, or access-control systems
- Familiarity with delegated authorization, workload identity, service-to-service auth, or machine credentials
- Background working on LLM-powered agents, tool calling, or protocols like Model Context Protocol
- Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and Terraform
