Job Description

Vercel, an infrastructure company helping builders and agents deploy software, is seeking a remote Software Engineer for its Connect team. Vercel Connect provides a platform that gives AI agents and applications secure access to external tools, data, and events without the complications of managing credentials and OAuth. This position suits an experienced developer who wants to focus on agent identity, credential security, token infrastructure, and integration protocols.

In this role, the software engineer will build end-to-end provider integrations, maintain high-performance infrastructure, and work with external partners on authentication standards. The successful candidate will possess a strong security mindset and extensive technical experience to help shape the future of agent platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver end-to-end provider integrations encompassing auth flows, token exchanges, app registrations, and configuration interfaces.
  • Manage and enhance core infrastructure focusing on uptime, performance, and secure handling of credentials and keys.
  • Collaborate with industry leaders to design and deploy new authentication and authorization protocols tailored for the AI era.
  • Build and harden event forwarding mechanics, including inbound signature verification and outbound project-scoped identity delivery.
  • Expand SDKs, consent-redirect processes, and framework adapters to make Connect the primary method for assigning credentials to agents.
  • Minimize integration costs so future providers rely primarily on configuration rather than custom code.
  • Partner directly with teams utilizing Connect to translate user insights into platform enhancements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience building and operating production backend or full-stack systems with service or platform ownership.
  • Practical and deep understanding of OAuth 2.0/2.1, OIDC, and JWTs, including authorization codes, PKCE, token exchange, and scope restriction.
  • Demonstrated security focus regarding integration vulnerabilities such as SSRF, DNS rebinding, redirect-URI validation, and webhook signature verification.
  • Strong TypeScript proficiency with the ability to develop both backend and frontend components.
  • Experience integrating with diverse third-party APIs and handling non-standard behaviors behind clean abstractions.

Qualifications

  • Experience building or operating an OAuth authorization server, identity provider, or multi-tenant integrations platform.
  • Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP), agent tool-calling, or delegated-access and consent patterns.
  • Prior background working on integration marketplaces, partner engineering, or large-scale webhook infrastructure.
  • History of open source contributions, especially within authentication, Next.js, or agent tooling ecosystems.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package with equity
  • Inclusive healthcare package
  • Learning and growth budget, mentorship, and event attendance support
  • Flexible time off
  • Work equipment and a work-from-home budget
