Job Description
This is a full-time, hybrid Software Engineer role in London, with the team generally in the office three days a week. The title points to the home page and merchandising platform. The engineer joins a multi-disciplinary group focused on delivering technical work together. The systems involved determine what millions of people see when they open Deliveroo's hyper-local app.
The core task is designing and growing backend services for a live, real-time marketplace, written in Go, Ruby or Python. Engineers improve how code is organised and structured by taking part in technical debate and reviewing their area's code. Reliability matters a great deal, with attention to observability, monitoring and the general wellbeing of production systems.
Engineers also look for places where they can integrate with other teams and help set the technical path for their domain. Sitting on interview panels and helping peers develop are included in the role.
The posting sketches an ideal candidate with deep skill in some of the listed areas and a desire to build up the rest. Writing well-designed, well-tested code with long-term maintainability in mind is central. Web application work, relational databases, high-traffic architecture and caching or NoSQL stores are all welcome, along with a pragmatic method for handling intricate logistics and marketplace questions.
Responsibilities
- Design and expand backend services for the real-time marketplace.
- Refine code layout and architecture through technical debate and code review.
- Bolster reliability through monitoring, observability and production health work.
- Spot integration opportunities with other teams and steer the roadmap for your domain.
- Sit on engineering interviews and help peers grow.
Qualifications
- Care about clean, dependable code that stays easy to maintain over the years.
- Hands-on time building web apps in a current language like Go, Ruby on Rails, Python, Scala or Rust.
- Hands-on familiarity with PostgreSQL or MySQL relational stores.
- Familiarity with high-traffic web architecture, ideally 20krpm and above.
- Some exposure to NoSQL data stores and caches (Redis, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch).
- Problem-solving instincts aimed at knotty logistics or marketplace questions.
