Twilio is seeking a Software Engineer (L2) to join its team and contribute to the development and delivery of new capabilities for the Twilio Flex platform. Operating remotely within specific regions of India, the successful candidate will be part of a scrum team responsible for designing, building, operating, and owning cloud-based microservices. This position plays an instrumental role in establishing the engineering capability and capacity within the Bengaluru office to support the Flex business unit.

This role is well-suited for professionals with a background in building scalable distributed systems and cloud applications. Engineers in this position will collaborate closely with product and engineering colleagues to guide roadmap priorities, shape architectural decisions, and propose creative technical solutions. Twilio operates on a remote-first model, though occasional in-person travel for team gatherings, functional off-sites, or customer meetings may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain scalable distributed systems focusing on performance and reliability
  • Design, test, develop, and deploy platform services on AWS using microservices principles
  • Manage services end-to-end, handle incident response, join on-call rotations, and conduct root cause analyses
  • Write automated integration and unit tests while contributing to deployment tooling and CI/CD pipelines
  • Refactor code to reduce technical debt and maintain engineering standards through code reviews and design discussions
  • Collaborate with engineering and product peers to shape architectural options and roadmap priorities
  • Create system documentation, runbooks, design documents, and operational playbooks

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
  • Three to five years of experience in Java developing secure, highly available, native cloud enterprise SaaS applications
  • Experience working with public cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS or GCP
  • Background in building distributed, real-time, highly scalable systems using microservices architecture
  • Familiarity with container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience designing and implementing REST APIs
  • Working knowledge of SQL, NoSQL databases, and caching technologies
  • Experience with modern automated testing and CI/CD pipelines

Qualifications

  • Experience using streaming technologies such as Kafka, Flink, and Spark
  • Experience deploying cloud applications across multi-region environments
  • Ability to build relationships and influence across all organizational levels
  • Familiarity with Customer Engagement and Contact Center solutions
