Responsibilities
- Design, build, and upkeep backend services powering the large-scale TaskRouter system inside Twilio Flex
- Establish and oversee the architectural vision for business-critical backend services hosted on AWS
- Direct the design of major distributed system updates focusing on scalability, data architecture, isolation of faults, and migration strategies
- Enhance availability and resilience for Tier 0 systems while balancing reliability, speed, and cost
- Collaborate with product and engineering groups to align on technical designs and resolve dependencies
- Mentor mid-level and senior engineers through direct guidance, code reviews, and design evaluations
- Drive operational readiness through observability, incident responses, gamedays, and permanent fixes for recurring errors
- Contribute to roadmap priorities alongside product and engineering leadership while representing the team across the organization
Requirements
- Over 8 years of professional experience writing production-ready backend code in modern languages like Python, Java, Golang, or Scala
- Solid fundamentals in building fault-tolerant distributed systems, database design, and event-driven architectures
- Proven experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure
- Extensive background in creating high-scale, low-latency APIs
- Familiarity with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or DynamoDB
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting proficiencies for complex distributed software
- Experience shipping products and services utilizing CI/CD development methodologies
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate in a rapid environment and handle ambiguity
Qualifications
- Experience utilizing event streaming platforms like Kafka or Pulsar
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools including Kubernetes and Docker
- Strong understanding of networking principles and Linux operating systems
- Background in developing multi-tenant SaaS platforms at a large scale
- Familiarity with observability platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana
