Job Description
This is a full-time, on-site Software Engineer role in London focused on Go backend work. The role belongs to the Support Engineering group, which creates high-performance admin applications and internal operations tools used by customer, courier and merchant support staff. Support operations are growing from 30 countries toward 60, so the tooling has to grow in step.
One key system is an in-house chat platform that handles roughly five million conversations each month. Upcoming projects include automated outreach when orders are delayed and features that cut manual effort, sharpen communication and fix problems before users spot them. The engineer will write high-throughput backend services, build systems that keep working under stress and are simple to look after, and take part in architecture and technical decisions.
Partnering with product, design and frontend colleagues, the engineer will ship features that help support agents in many countries. Writing thoroughly tested code and helping the team hold high quality standards are part of the job.
The posting is aimed at an engineer with at least three years of professional experience who has built and scaled complicated systems and has used Go in production. Solid hands-on work with SQL and NoSQL databases, particularly Cassandra, is needed, along with a grasp of low-latency distributed design. Time on call and a grounded view of reliability matter. A background in Node.js or another server-side language, familiarity with AWS or GCP, and exposure to event-driven designs would be helpful.
Responsibilities
- Own Go-based backend services that must absorb very high traffic volumes.
- Partner with product, design and frontend colleagues to deliver features for support agents.
- Engineer systems that can grow, recover from faults and remain easy to look after.
- Take part in architecture debates and technical decision-making.
- Produce well-tested code and help keep the team's standards high.
Requirements
- Three-plus years working as a professional software engineer.
- Production experience with Go and an interest in strong engineering practice.
- Hands-on work with SQL and NoSQL databases, particularly Cassandra.
- Experience reasoning about latency and throughput in distributed systems.
- On-call experience and a level-headed stance on reliability and incidents.
Qualifications
- Background in Node.js or another server-side language.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures.
Core Skills
Benefits
- Benefits vary by country and cover areas such as health care, wellbeing support, parental leave, retirement plans and holidays, plus time off to support a charity of the employee's choice. Candidates are directed to their recruiter for country-specific details.
