Job Description
Motive's Equipment Monitoring group develops backend services that give fleet operators visibility into where trailers, reefers, heavy machinery and small assets are, how they are used and whether they are healthy. This full-time role is listed in the United States. The engineer constructs the ingestion and stream-processing layers that convert sensor data from IoT hardware into live location data, geofence triggers, trip records and alerts, and works alongside the embedded and firmware groups and IoT colleagues on device payload formats and data paths.
Day-to-day work involves building observable, dependable services for telemetry from very large device counts, running Kafka and Flink pipelines for geofencing, alerting, trip building and location, designing APIs for internal and external apps, reducing technical debt, improving code quality, working on AWS, using AI coding assistants to boost productivity, and mentoring others.
The posting asks for a computer science or related degree, five-plus years of software development, and experience with distributed and event-driven systems built on Kafka, Flink, Kinesis or similar tools. Familiarity with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Cassandra and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure is expected, while IoT or geospatial work is a plus. The arrangement is hybrid, with two office days a week. Pay varies by residence; the Canada range is CAD 171,000 to 200,000.
