Twilio is currently seeking a Software Engineer for Platform Access at the L2 level to join its Cloud Native Foundations Team on a remote basis. Twilio operates in the communications sector, building technology solutions and developer platforms utilized by businesses globally. This engineering position focuses on identity governance, least-privilege access, and automated access control across multi-cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.

This role is ideal for a professional looking to design, build, and operate security tools and access controls at scale while utilizing Infrastructure as Code and AI-assisted development tools. While the position is remote-friendly, please note that it is not open to applicants residing in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, or WA. Employees may occasionally be asked to travel in person for team gatherings, functional off-sites, or customer meetings.

Compensation varies by geographic region. For instance, the estimated salary range is $116,960 to $146,200 for Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, and Washington D.C.; $123,760 to $154,700 for New York, New Jersey, Washington State, and non-Bay Area California; and $137,520 to $171,900 for the San Francisco Bay Area. Eligible workers may also participate in equity and corporate bonus plans, along with standard health, retirement, and leave benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate automations and access tools that secure multi-cloud environments while streamlining developer workflows
  • Collaborate with technical leadership and security teams to translate well-scoped tasks into functioning code
  • Engage in code reviews while adhering to testing standards, policy-as-code frameworks, and established patterns
  • Support access infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP using Terraform
  • Maintain least-privilege IAM policies, identity federation, role provisioning, and automated lifecycle workflows across numerous cloud accounts
  • Monitor observability coverage including alerts, metrics, and basic distributed tracing across core data pipelines
  • Raise awareness regarding IAM best practices and secure architectural methods
  • Report security vulnerabilities, access drift, platform issues, and technical debt to the team
  • Participate in sprint planning, seek mentorship from senior peers, and share acquired knowledge

Requirements

  • 1 to 2 plus years of professional software engineering, platform engineering, or DevOps experience
  • Practical exposure to multi-cloud environments, IAM, or platform automation
  • Experience or familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Harness
  • Basic exposure to account management, IAM permissions, or core services in at least one major cloud provider like AWS, Microsoft Azure, or GCP
  • Working knowledge of at least one of Shell, Terraform, YAML, or Go
  • Solid comprehension of core security concepts including authentication, authorization, least-privilege principles, and secrets management

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code or GitHub Copilot
  • General familiarity with multi-account and multi-project cloud architecture
  • Familiarity with centralized identity federation, Okta integration, SAML, or OIDC with cloud service providers
  • Hands-on experience managing access to containerized workloads or Kubernetes clusters
  • Interest in automated cloud governance tools, account vending machines, or identity lifecycle management at scale
  • Coursework or personal projects related to API development, cloud security, or distributed systems
