Job Description
Fieldguide is hiring a remote Software Engineer, Quality & Automation on a full-time basis, with a salary range between USD 130,000 and 240,000 per year. The company builds software designed to streamline and automate assurance and financial, privacy, and cybersecurity audit workflows for major accounting and consulting firms. In this role, the engineer takes ownership of quality and automation for large enterprise deployments by leveraging agentic tooling to triage, reproduce, and resolve issues.
The position centers on maintaining consistency between SaaS and PaaS environments, building agent-based automation capacity, conducting bug bashes on new features, and managing bug reporting and communication. This practitioner works closely with customers to improve issue reporting, fix validation, and integration processes. The employer evaluates seniority and scope during the interview process across multiple levels, offering responsibilities ranging from execution up to defining company-level testing and release standards.
Candidates must possess production software engineering experience, practical test automation background, hands-on familiarity with AI or agentic tools, and direct customer engagement skills. Preferred technical exposures include Python, TypeScript, React, Postgres, Playwright, AWS, Kubernetes, and LLM-based workflows. The company offers compensation featuring equity, comprehensive health coverage starting on day one, flexible schedules, technology reimbursements, 401(k) plans, and biannual company offsites.

- Manage bug reporting and communication through severity-weighted trends and quality tracking
- Partner with customers to integrate processes and improve issue reporting and fix validation
- Enhance internal automated testing coverage and CI signal reliability while reducing flaky tests

- Curate datasets to support agent quality evaluation efforts
Requirements
- Strong production software engineering experience in writing and shipping code
- Hands-on experience building test automation and CI quality gates
- Practical use of AI or agentic tooling as part of daily workflows

- Comfort operating in ambiguity and owning outcomes independently
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, React, Postgres, Hasura, and GraphQL
- Experience with E2E and integration frameworks such as Playwright or Cypress
- Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS and single-tenant or self-managed enterprise deployments
- Infrastructure exposure including AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform for environment parity work
- Experience with observability and tracing tools like Datadog
- Background in building agentic workflows or internal tooling utilizing LLMs
- Experience with performance and load testing, particularly on long-running workflows
- Familiarity with security and compliance environments such as SOC 2 or FedRAMP
