Chainguard seeks a remote Software Engineer for its Sustaining Automation group, specifically joining the Package and Image Automation team. The company focuses on securing the software supply chain by providing production-ready, zero-CVE container images and developer solutions. In this role, the engineer builds and maintains automation platforms, CLI tools, and AI-driven pipelines to keep software packages current, tested, and efficiently built.
This position involves writing production Go code, developing LLM-integrated agentic workflows for test generation and validation, and helping shape the engineering roadmap within a small squad. Teammates collaborate across time zones, primarily connecting with colleagues in the US, Canada, EU, and India.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement automation platforms for package creation, image building, and test generation
- Develop LLM-integrated and agentic pipelines for manifest generation, prompt architectures, quality gates, and test scaffolding
- Write production-grade Go services, integrations, and command-line tools
- Build validation frameworks and quality tooling to enhance reliability for customers
- Contribute ideas and technical input to planning and help guide the team roadmap
- Collaborate across a distributed team spanning North America, Europe, and India
Requirements
- Possess 3 to 5 years of software engineering experience with a history of shipping production systems
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in the Go programming language
- Bring practical experience utilizing AI and LLMs to review, test, and generate code
- Apply systems design abilities to build loosely-coupled, scalable architectures and make pragmatic engineering trade-offs
- Have experience creating developer tooling, command-line interfaces, or automation platforms
- Understand container ecosystems including Docker, OCI, container registries, and Kubernetes
- Exhibit strong communication skills for writing technical documents and working autonomously across time zones
- Reside in the United States or Canada
Qualifications
- Experience contributing to or working on a Linux distribution such as Wolfi, Red Hat, or Ubuntu
- Background in maintaining a large volume of services in production
- Prior contributions to open-source software projects
- Familiarity with software supply chain security concepts like SBOMs, signing, and provenance
- Experience utilizing melange, apko, or Wolfi
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks including FedRAMP, FIPS, and STIG
