Pinterest operates a digital platform that serves millions of people worldwide looking for creative ideas, planning tools, and inspiration. The company is hiring a Staff Data Scientist, Trust and Safety for its Core organization based in San Francisco, California.

In this position, you will help shape consumer-facing and business-facing product lines by applying expertise in algorithms, experimentation, and quantitative modeling to complex engineering problems. The core objective of the role is to transition the trust and safety organization from a reactive moderation model into a proactive, metric-driven operating system that predicts risk and improves content quality. You will work across product, engineering, design, research, and analytics teams to scale data pipelines, establish measurement best practices, and introduce scientific rigor to real-world products utilized by hundreds of millions of users, merchants, creators, and advertisers.

This role suits an experienced data scientist with a strong background in large-scale data manipulation, machine learning, and statistical modeling who wants to influence product development on a global platform. The position follows a flexible working model where you will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration one to two times per quarter, allowing you to reside anywhere in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the trust and safety platform to quantify full-funnel opportunities and risks
  • Lead projects focused on trust and safety across various funnel stages
  • Design and produce scalable machine learning and evaluation frameworks covering statistical measurement, product recommendations, and forecasting
  • Establish best practices for instrumentation and experimentation and communicate them to product engineering teams
  • Apply scientific rigor and statistical methods to product creation, development, and improvement
  • Build and iterate on analysis pipelines to deliver insights at scale while mastering data structures and metrics
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers to shape upcoming platform experiences

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience analyzing data in a fast-paced, data-driven environment
  • Proven ability to apply scientific methods to solve real-world problems utilizing web-scale data
  • Extensive experience solving analytical challenges through quantitative approaches including machine learning, statistical modeling, forecasting, or econometrics
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality, results-oriented output with a rigorous approach to analysis and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manipulate large, complex datasets with high dimensionality
  • Fluency in a scripting language such as Python or R, alongside database languages like SQL
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to explain findings to technical and non-technical partners
  • Ability to travel to the office for in-person collaboration one to two times per quarter
