Grafana Labs is the creator of Grafana Cloud, a fully managed observability platform utilized by over 10,000 organizations to accelerate incident resolution and manage telemetry at scale. The enterprise operates as a distributed entity with personnel spanning more than 40 countries. The application core services group within the foundations department currently seeks a staff fullstack engineer to join the usage squad. This team oversees infrastructure and code related to billing, pricing, usage calculations, and marketplace connections. The selected candidate will direct complex technical tasks, help maintain backend systems, and contribute to frontend applications while improving reliability and automating manual tasks.
The role operates on a hands-on basis where roughly three-quarters of the initial effort focuses on backend tasks and the remainder addresses frontend development. Responsibilities include building application logic, managing relational databases, configuring Kubernetes workloads, and troubleshooting production anomalies. Qualified applicants should possess deep technical expertise in constructing production systems using Go alongside familiarity with TypeScript and React. While the position is based in Canada with remote arrangements, applicants from NASA's Eastern Time zone are preferred for better collaboration overlap with European teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate backend services and APIs for billing, pricing, and usage visibility workflows
- Write backend code primarily in Go alongside Node.js and contribute to TypeScript and React applications
- Maintain containerised services, scheduled jobs, and cloud infrastructure deployments inside Kubernetes environments
- Investigate and resolve production errors, database query delays, resource exhaustion, and failed jobs
- Build and sustain integrations with cloud marketplaces and external business platforms
- Participate in an on-call rotation after completing onboarding and improve alert quality and operational runbooks
Requirements
- Extensive experience designing, delivering, and operating production backend systems
- Demonstrated proficiency building backend systems using Go
- Professional background contributing to frontend applications through TypeScript and React or similar technologies
- Familiarity with distributed systems principles such as retries, partial failures, and data consistency
- Practical background managing relational databases, migrations, and query performance
- Hands-on experience deploying and troubleshooting containerised services within Kubernetes
- Ability to manage cloud infrastructure via code and maintain CI/CD pipelines
Qualifications
- Background in usage metering, billing engines, financial reconciliation, or cost management software
- Experience automating operational workflows and reducing recurring manual interventions
- Familiarity with database administration tasks involving MySQL replication and upgrades
- Knowledge of Terraform, Jsonnet, and Kubernetes deployment configurations
- Prior exposure to data synchronisation pipelines and BigQuery integrations
- Familiarity with cloud marketplace integrations spanning AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Experience connecting business platforms such as NetSuite or Salesforce
