ServiceNow is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer specializing in Kubernetes Operators to join its team in Hyderabad for a full-time position. This role suits experienced technical leaders who can guide the architecture, design, and production lifecycle of cloud-native systems. Professionals in this capacity will take charge of key features, translate complex engineering challenges into scalable solutions, and collaborate closely with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to align with corporate technical strategies.
The position requires a strong hands-on background in developing core infrastructure, writing code, and reviewing software systems such as Kubernetes controllers and automation tools. The successful candidate will maintain active involvement across the entire development lifecycle, mitigate technical risks early, and focus heavily on reliability and operational excellence. Additionally, this role involves mentoring junior and mid-level engineers through code evaluations, design sessions, and collaborative problem-solving.

Responsibilities
- Lead the complete design and production delivery of services and components within the cloud-native platform
- Act as technical lead for major team initiatives by turning ambiguous issues into scalable executable designs
- Collaborate with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to match broader platform architecture and technical strategy
- Identify and resolve technical risks proactively with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, and operability
- Maintain active participation in coding, designing, and reviewing infrastructure automation, platform services, and Kubernetes operators
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers by conducting code and design reviews while offering technical guidance
Requirements
- Over eight years of experience building, designing, and operating large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native platforms
- Demonstrated background in operating Kubernetes platform infrastructure at scale through deployments and upgrades
- Hands-on expertise developing Kubernetes Operators, Admission Controllers, and platform extensions using Kubebuilder or Operator Framework
- Experience managing both self-managed Kubernetes environments and managed services like EKS, AKS, and GKE
- Background supporting stateful services, large-scale data infrastructure, or cloud-native database platforms on Kubernetes
- Strong software development skills in Go, custom resource definitions, and platform automation
- Working knowledge of public cloud infrastructure including AWS, Azure, or GCP for compute, networking, and identity management
- Experience with microservices, event-driven systems, distributed application architecture, containers, CI/CD, and GitOps
- Hands-on use of Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or Crossplane
- Familiarity integrating artificial intelligence into engineering operations or tooling
Qualifications
- Experience with container networking and service meshes
- Familiarity with mTLS, workload identity, and secrets management at fleet scale
- Background in configuring observability metrics, tracing, and service-level objectives
- Experience with Apache Kafka and Redis for high-scale clusters and high availability
- Knowledge of data formats including Parquet, ORC, and Avro along with compaction and governance strategies
