Motive's Developer Productivity team builds the development, compilation and release backbone for its SaaS, mobile and embedded or IoT offerings. This full-time, on-site Staff Platform Engineer job in the United States centres on secure, very scalable distributed services that automate environment bootstrapping, release pipelines, self-service tooling and local developer setups. The toolset named includes Golang, Ruby on Rails, Python, Kotlin, C, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, Tekton and Helm.
In this role the engineer helps set the team's direction, builds bootstrap and delivery pipelines that run hands-off, champions self-service engineering methods, and makes local development both consistent and easier. Other responsibilities include designing self-healing infrastructure for fast, dependable automated tests, improving the performance of current systems, hosting demos and learning sessions, and coaching colleagues on design choices.
The listing seeks seven to ten-plus years of engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. A strong track record building CI/CD systems with tools such as Tekton, Prow, CircleCI, Jenkins, Spinnaker or GitHub Actions is required, along with knowledge of Git branching, reproducible builds, infrastructure as code, AWS and Kubernetes. Gerrit, AOSP and embedded build experience counts as a bonus.
Responsibilities
- Help set the platform team's direction and programme of work
- Set up bootstrapping and release pipelines that need no manual steps
- Advocate self-service engineering tools and practices across the organisation
- Refine the local development workflow while keeping it uniform
- Engineer self-repairing infrastructure that makes automated testing quick and reliable
- Raise the speed and dependability of existing systems
- Run brown-bag talks and demos, and mentor engineers
Requirements
- Seven to ten-plus years of engineering experience
- Experience building CI/CD systems across more than one pipeline toolchain
- Experience improving software delivery and managing large distributed releases
- Proficiency in Golang, Ruby on Rails, Python or similar languages
- Working knowledge of AWS and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible and Helm
- Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration, such as Kubernetes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline
- Bonus: Gerrit and Android OS (AOSP) build systems
- Bonus: embedded systems builds and compilation
