Job Description
Samsara is hiring a full-time Staff Product Designer to work remotely from the United States. The role leads design work on large, ambiguous initiatives spanning several product areas, moving from problem definition to launch and then iteration. Samsara sells what it calls a Connected Operations Cloud, which lets businesses in farming, building work, field service, freight and factories turn IoT data into operational insight.
The designer will set interaction patterns and visual systems that other designers build on, meet with strategic customers to bring their feedback into product decisions, and push finished work live across the design system, the web products and the mobile applications. The company also expects the designer to use AI tools throughout the design process and to help define new ways of working across the design team.
The role is open to candidates who have more than ten years of product design experience for web and mobile applications, a portfolio that shows design craft and measurable impact across multiple product areas, strong interaction and visual design craft, and experience mentoring designers. Applicants without a portfolio will not be considered. The stated annual base salary range is 143,640 to 256,500 US dollars, and the actual figure depends on work location. The role is eligible for an initial restricted stock unit grant and possible refresh grants.
Responsibilities
- Lead large initiatives across several product areas, from problem framing to launch and iteration
- Set interaction patterns and visual systems that other designers build on
- Meet regularly with strategic customers and bring their feedback into product decisions
- Use AI tools throughout the design process and help democratize design across the company
- Deploy working code to live systems spanning the design system, the web products and the mobile applications
Requirements
- Over ten years in product design for web and mobile applications, including leading multi-product work
- A portfolio that shows craft and measurable results across several products or a whole platform
- Strong grounding in interaction and visual design
- Hands-on use of AI tools in regular design practice, with shipped work that can be attributed to them
- Track record coaching other designers in both structured and informal settings
- Experience partnering with senior leadership
