Job Description
Motive's Equipment Monitoring group builds the backend platform that shows fleets where their trailers, reefers, heavy construction machinery and smaller assets are, how they are used and how they are running. This full-time role in the United States calls for an engineer who builds the ingestion and stream-processing layer that converts raw sensor signals from asset gateways, Bluetooth environment sensors, door sensors and beacon tags into real-time location, geofence, trip and alert data.
The job covers building observable, dependable services that handle telemetry from very large device populations, operating Kafka and Flink pipelines for geofencing, alerting, trip building and asset location, designing APIs for internal and external apps, and defining data contracts with the embedded, IoT and firmware groups. Engineers also reduce technical debt, lift code quality, work on AWS infrastructure, mentor peers and use AI coding assistants to be more productive.
Desired background includes a computer science or related degree, five-plus years in software development, and hands-on work with distributed or event-driven pipelines built on Kafka, Flink or Kinesis. Experience with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis or Cassandra and with major cloud providers is expected, and geospatial or IoT work is a bonus. The role is hybrid, with two days a week in the office. The base compensation range is $140,000 to $193,000 USD.
