Job Description
Turing is hiring a remote, full-time Strategic Project Lead for coding data programmes. The lead runs the production system behind software engineering datasets, turning sophisticated research requirements into dependable output on quality, throughput, contributor performance, timing and cost.
Workstreams can include supervised coding demonstrations, agent trajectories, reinforcement learning environments, benchmark building and rubric-scored evaluation, and may involve coordinating hundreds of distributed engineers. The posting calls this operations leadership. The lead must read and review code written in Go, Java, TypeScript or Python, follow a pull request, read a test suite and decide unaided whether delivered work is sound. The lead is not expected to be principal engineer on every programme. The core task is building and running a repeatable system.
The first month covers calibration on technical and operational matters, setting the programme baseline, checking the acceptance criteria and the delivery controls, and independently leading one defined workstream. By three months, the lead should show steady output and quality, move at least one key metric, and demonstrate that defects are caught internally. By six months, the lead should run concurrent programmes and turn proven workflows into reusable assets.
Day-to-day work includes defining contributor profiles with talent teams, sourcing and onboarding engineers, managing training, performance, reviewer capacity and incentives, and building team-lead and reviewer layers that keep standards steady across large programmes. The lead reports progress, quality, risk and recovery actions to researchers and programme managers at frontier AI labs, and challenges any task specification unlikely to yield the signal the researcher needs.
Candidates should have a background in software engineering, technical programme management, consulting, finance, early-stage companies or other demanding operational work, plus a history of running complicated projects with several stakeholders. Analytical and communication skills, customer-facing experience and interest in process optimisation are required. Helpful extras include experience with agent evaluation tooling, coding benchmarks or RL environments, running large contributor networks spread across regions, or earlier work with an AI training-data firm or a frontier research lab.
Responsibilities
- Own delivery and quality for each coding programme
- Set up coding workstreams across demonstrations, trajectories, RL environments and benchmarks
- Define contributor profiles with talent teams and manage onboarding, training and performance
- Run quality control across annotation and close gaps quickly
- Report progress, quality, risk and recovery plans to lab researchers
- Script quality sampling, defect tagging, throughput review and weekly reports in Python or SQL
- Turn working methods into reusable playbooks and mentor other leads
Requirements
- Ability to read and review code written in Go, Java, TypeScript or Python, and follow pull requests
- Confident reading tests and deciding, unaided, whether delivered work is sound
- Experience in engineering, technical programme management, consulting, finance or startups
- History of running complicated projects with several stakeholders
- Analytical and communication strength, including with demanding clients
- Interest in process optimisation and large-scale execution
Qualifications
- Hands-on work with agent evaluation tooling, coding benchmarks or RL environments
- Track record running big networks of remote contributors or marketplaces
- Earlier work with an AI training-data firm or a frontier research lab
