In this player-coach position, the person selected will dedicate over forty percent of their schedule to hands-on coding and pull request creation, while balancing team leadership, roadmap planning, and operational processes for a squad of four engineers. The group manages vital infrastructure including build pipelines, artifact storage, source intelligence, and release-safety mechanisms that support the engineering organization.
This opportunity is well-suited for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys remaining technical and writing production code alongside managerial duties. The role requires balancing platform velocity with system reliability, security upkeep, and dependency updates while championing artificial intelligence tooling. Candidates will coordinate across multiple engineering groups, act as the primary point of contact for platform functions, and mentor staff members. Responsibilities
- Write and review production code by authoring pull requests for at least forty percent of work time
- Direct team technical strategy, architecture, and quality standards in collaboration with senior individual contributors
- Manage personnel functions including one-on-one meetings, performance feedback, career guidance, hiring, and promotions
- Oversee continuous integration and build platforms such as CircleCI, GitHub, Artifactory, and Sourcegraph
- Maintain release-safety systems including progressive delivery, canaries, feature flags, and rollbacks
- Handle operational discipline, incident response, service-level agreements, and blameless post-mortems
- Collaborate across the platform organization with product engineering, security, and infrastructure groups
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of software engineering background
- At least two years of experience leading or managing engineers, covering performance tracking and hiring
- Practical background delivering developer productivity, build, release, or continuous integration systems
- Hands-on operational experience with continuous integration platforms and artifact management in production environments
- Programming background in Go, Ruby, Python, or similar languages
- Familiarity with progressive delivery, release gating, and feature flagging strategies
- Knowledge of running scalable production systems with a focus on observability and reliability
- Practical experience utilizing Kubernetes, Argo CD, or GitOps deployment workflows in production
Qualifications
- Experience working with code quality, linting systems, and code intelligence tooling like Sourcegraph and Artifactory
- Familiarity with observability tools and monitoring platforms such as Datadog
- Background in financial services, regulated industries, or high-reliability operating environments
