Job Description
Canonical is hiring a full-time Telco Cloud Field Engineer on a remote basis covering the Americas and EMEA. The engineer sits within the company's field engineering organisation and helps customers plan and roll out cloud platforms built on OpenStack and Kubernetes, along with software-defined networking.
Telecom providers are shifting toward services defined in software, a change powered by open source, cloud computing and network function approaches such as VNF and CNF. The engineer translates a provider's needs into telco cloud architectures that support network function workloads, and builds telco-grade private and micro clouds that serve several tenants. The work involves infrastructure-as-code, software-defined infrastructure assembled from OpenStack, Kubernetes, MAAS and Ceph, and helping tenants come on board and reach production.
The role mixes hands-on engineering with customer-facing work. Tasks include technical pre-sales consulting, tracking down and repairing defects found during rollouts, and feeding lessons from customers into product improvements and planning.
The posting favours a customer-focused engineer who understands Linux, networking, OpenStack and Kubernetes, writes Python automation, and can run complicated projects end to end. Open source contributions are a bonus. The company has operated remotely since 2004, and the job includes trips for events, client meetings and delivery work.
