As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer for the Public Sector, the professional will engage directly with local, state, and federal government clients to implement and operationalize solutions utilizing the Databricks platform. This hands-on, billable position bridges technical execution and business outcomes. Responsibilities include owning system architecture, designing custom applications, integrating machine learning models, and collaborating cross-functionally with product and engineering teams. The role demands strong customer empathy and technical acumen to guide clients through successful platform adoption.
Candidates must be eligible for a U.S. government Secret, Top Secret, or Public Trust clearance due to federal contracting obligations. Additionally, the role entails twenty-five percent travel to client locations.
Responsibilities
- Lead customer technical engagements by building production-grade systems, reference architectures, and custom applications
- Design and deploy end-to-end big data and AI applications alongside strategic clients
- Collaborate with engagement managers to scope technical delivery work based on customer input
- Guide clients through architecture, design, and project bootstrapping to ensure successful adoption of Databricks
- Own architecture and design decisions to guarantee secure, scalable solutions aligned with industry best practices
- Deliver technical components in coordination with project managers, architects, and customer teams
- Partner with engineering and customer support to relay implementation feedback and resolve engagement issues
- Embed directly with customer teams spanning technical individual contributors to executive stakeholders
- Contribute reusable accelerators, frameworks, and best practices to scale account impact and influence product roadmaps
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience in software engineering, data platforms and analytics, or data engineering
- Fluency in programming languages including Python, Scala, JavaScript or TypeScript, and modern frameworks
- Working knowledge of at least two major cloud ecosystems such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, with deep expertise in at least one
- Extensive experience with distributed computing utilizing Apache Spark and knowledge of Spark runtime internals
- Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines for production environments
- Working knowledge of MLOps, artificial intelligence and machine learning models, and related APIs
- Ability to design and deploy performant production architectures combining data pipelines, AI models, and user interfaces
- Experience managing technical project delivery, white-boarding, documentation, and stakeholder conflict resolution
- Eligibility for a U.S. government Public Trust, Secret, and/or Top Secret security clearance
- Ability to travel to client sites up to 25 percent of the time
Qualifications
- 8 or more years of experience in data engineering, data platforms and analytics, or software engineering
- Databricks certification
- Advanced expertise in MLOps, AI and machine learning models, and AI APIs
